Lake Manyara sits below the Great Rift Valley escarpment and includes groundwater forest, woodland, open areas, wetlands and the alkaline lake. The changing habitats make a short drive through the park visually varied.

The park supports monkeys, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and diverse birdlife. Flamingo numbers vary with water and feeding conditions, so travelers should not expect the lake to look the same in every season.

Planning a Visit

Lake Manyara works well as part of a shorter northern safari or as a stop between the Arusha side and the Ngorongoro highlands. Road access and game-drive routes can change when water levels are high.

The wider Mto wa Mbu area can also support cultural or cycling activities for visitors who want to add community-based experiences to a wildlife itinerary.
