Starting a Tanzania Safari from Arusha

Arusha is one of the main gateways to northern Tanzania’s safari circuit. It sits within practical reach of Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro highlands and the road toward Serengeti. For many international travelers, an Arusha overnight before the safari creates a more relaxed start after arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Two to three days

Short itineraries are best when they focus on nearby parks instead of trying to reach every major destination. Tarangire and Ngorongoro are a strong two-day combination. A third day can add Lake Manyara or provide more time in one of the existing areas.

Four to five days

With four or five days, Serengeti becomes more practical. A common routing direction is Arusha to Tarangire, then toward Serengeti, followed by Ngorongoro before returning to Arusha. The exact order can change with lodge availability and seasonal priorities.
